Preventing youth access
Our commitment
The Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Vaping) Amendment Act 2020 prohibits the sale of vaping products to any person under the age of 18.
vapemerchant.nz strongly supports New Zealand's prohibition on the sale and promotion of vaping products to anyone under 18 years old.
We take this obligation seriously. We do not sell vaping products to anyone under 18, and we have a responsible retailing policy in place to make sure that doesn't happen. It's set out below for your information.
In store
R18 environments, Under-25 policy
All Vape Merchant stores are R18 environments and we operate an Under-25 Policy. We deal with every customer politely, respectfully and courteously. In practice, this means:
- Anyone who looks under 25 will be asked for proof-of-age ID.
- We only accept a current Passport, New Zealand Drivers Licence, or 18+ Card as proof of age.
- We only engage with the customer once a valid ID check has been completed.
- Where ID was requested and a sale is made, the date of birth is recorded against that transaction.
When we'll refuse service
We also reserve the right to refuse service or a sale where staff have legitimate grounds to withhold it, including where:
- We suspect the purchase is intended for someone underage.
- We suspect the purchase is for resale.
- The customer is on our Consumer Exclusion Policy — added either at their own request or at the request of a direct family member.
- The customer is aggressive or intoxicated.
Online (e-commerce)
Age verification before we ship
Customers must go through age verification before their order ships — the order will not leave our warehouse until this is complete.
Why we verify
All our products are R18. Customers are required to pass age verification before their order can be shipped.
How it works
Age checks are handled by CloudCheck, a third-party verification service from GBG. It's a simple process — just confirm your identity using a valid NZ Driver Licence or Passport. CloudCheck is built to protect your privacy, using your ID only to confirm your age.
If age verification isn't completed or doesn't pass, the order will be cancelled.
Vape Merchant only accepts credit cards for online orders. We do not accept PayPal or debit cards.
